Vancouver College

January 2019

The redevelopment of Vancouver College focuses on the creation of a sense of place for the only all boys independent Catholic school in British Columbia. A new courtyard will connect new middle school and elementary school buildings with existing senior school facilities. Key components include a new chapel, residences for the Christian Brothers, and retention of the historic 1924 Lannon Hall facade and McCormack Hall entry doors, both iconic connections to Vancouver College’s historic past.

The Phase 1A Manrell Hall middle school was completed in 2018. The Phase 1B elementary school and chapel are scheduled for completion in 2020.

Vancouver College Manrell Hall

December 2018

Completed in 2018, Manrell Hall is a 4,350 square metre middle school that focuses on the educational stage bridging elementary and senior school. The three-storey, rectilinear red brick-clad building is designed to maximize shared formal and informal learning spaces with classrooms arranged in learning neighbourhoods to support a 21st century learning pedagogy. Manrell Hall features a spacious sky-lit entry lobby, dining hall, founders atrium and campus ministry. The facility is the first phase of a master plan developed by Acton Ostry Architects for Vancouver College, the only all boys independent Catholic school in British Columbia.
