Sauder School of Business
Completed in 2017, the seven-phase, 25,000 square metre renewal and expansion was conceived with a goal to inspire future generations of business leaders with an inspiring environment designed to foster collaboration, creativity and innovation.
To achieve a bold and innovative identity, a new glazed facade wraps the complex and unifies the assemblage of formerly disparate parts. The facade reflects the rhythm, cadence and pattern language of a barcode with a striated pattern of stained blue and green wood panels set behind the glazing.
At the heart of the transformation is a dramatic, soaring atrium that links the original building with a new classroom block to create a hub to which every department links. A twin-lobed leadership centre crowns the addition, and a penthouse conference centre has been added atop the existing administrative tower.
An innovative donor recognition program incorporates large-scale portraits into glazed interior walls using international currency symbols as pixels. People and places associated with business from the past become a link and inspiration for entrepreneurs and business leaders of the future.
