AFBC Special Jury Award

The Gastown Child Care Centre has been selected as a recipient of a Special Jury Award from the Architectural Foundation of British Columbia’s Architectural Awards of Excellence program, which represents the highest level of architectural award in British Columbia and aims to recognize design excellence for projects across the province. The Passive House and LEED Gold-certified Gastown Child Care Centre provides 74 child care spaces in an innovative complex located atop underutilized parkades in the downtown Vancouver core.

Grands Prix du Design Platinum Award

The Duke has been announced as a winner of a 2021 Grands Prix du Design Platinum Award. Enhancing the appreciation and promotion of excellence in design, the Grands Prix du Design Awards celebrate and reward the work of designers and architects who improve our quality of life and the built environment. Designed under the City of Vancouver Rental 100 Secured Market Rental Housing Policy, The Duke is a LEED Gold-certified mixed-use rental residential development with a unique building typology that is new to Vancouver.

Urbanarium The Mixing Middle Competition

Acton Ostry Architects is pleased to be a sponsor of Urbanarium’s The Mixing Middle Competition, which calls for innovative mixed-use designs to revitalize residential areas in four Metro Vancouver communities. The aim of the competition is to create more vibrant neighbourhoods that meet the needs of intergenerational and multicultural residents through an exploration of the possibilities of multifunctional mixed uses. Creativity and ambition are encouraged. Registration is open to everyone through November 2, 2021.

Limberlost Place (FKA The Arbour)

Construction Start

Construction has begun on Limberlost Place, the future home of the School of Technology at George Brown College and Canada’s first Tall Wood Research Institute. Located on Toronto’s waterfront, the ten-storey tall wood building will break new ground with a revolutionary CLT structure that is anticipated to pave the way for the widespread use of mass timber in multi-storey, larger span buildings. Limberlost Place is a joint venture collaboration between AOA and Moriyama & Teshima Architects.
