Official Opening


The University of British Columbia and the Whitecaps FC team celebrates the official opening of the National Soccer Development Centre on September 22, 2017. The first Whitecaps FC team moved in and started training at the new facility in June. The facility brings new amenities to Thunderbird Park including new grass and artificial turf fields, washrooms, locker rooms, and a concessions stand, and will serve as the training home of Whitecaps FC.

Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards


Brock Commons Tallwood House was recognized as a Finalist in the Spaces, Places and Cities category of Fast Company’s sixth annual Innovation By Design Awards. The annual program drew more than 2,500 submissions with 299 honourees chosen by expert judges in 13 categories representing the best products, services, interfaces and ideas of 2017. Rooftop Trees


A bosque of seventeen spruce trees (Picea bicolour) were recently hoisted by crane and placed atop The Independent. The evergreens range from three to five meters in height and are planted in a cascade of cubic planters. The tree-topped crown symbolizes the height to which the first-growth forest once soared and marks the summit of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood in Vancouver’s skyline.
