UBC New Aquatics Centre

The design of the new Aquatics Centre at UBC has moved into the construction document phase. The project is a collaboration of MJMA (MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects) and Acton Ostry Architects.

Construction of the new aquatics centre, which will replace the existing facility, will get underway later this year. The new aquatics centre will include a 50m competition pool, 25m recreational lap pool, leisure pool and other amenities including, universal change rooms, a hot tub, multi-purpose spaces, and spectator seating for aquatics competition events. The project is designed to a LEED Gold target and is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Russell Acton BUILDEX 2014 Seeds of Inspiration

Russell Acton will share his thoughts about inspiration and the creative process in a presentation titled Seeds of Inspiration to be held at BUILDEX on February 20th from 8:30 to 10:00 am at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Also presenting will be Brian Dust of NSDA with Bruce Carscadden as moderator. The presentation will explore sources of inspiration and creativity for both personal artistic endeavours and professional architectural works.

York House Senior School

Completed in August 2013, the new York House Senior School provides a new identity and celebrated entry point for the greater York House School campus. A soaring glazed portal, dynamic circulation crossroads and skylit atrium incorporates inspirational social and study spaces.

The new facility for students in grades eight through twelve includes 36,000 square feet of classrooms, administrative and service spaces, locker zones, a social lounge and study areas.

Innovative, progressive and collaborative state-of-the-art learning and teaching spaces are adaptable and flexible, with spaces and places for informal student and teacher interaction throughout the day.
